Help 2 Does anyone have knowledge, good or bad, about Millis Training Institute?

Hi, I'm a wannbe trucker who is looking to not get screwed over when it comes to training. There are way too many horror stories in here, almost enough to make me rethink my decision to be come a trucker. I gave my name, address and number to a site online that then sent it to some schools and companies- the ones I have heard back from are Roadmaster, Swift, and Millis Training Institute. I am pretty sure I won't go with Swift from what I have read on here, but does anyone know anything about Millis? The tuition seems too good to be true, and you need 500 upfront, but they seem like an ok company from what I have read.

I attended MTI in Cartersville, GA in 2003. The schooling is average. They give you just enough knowledge to get you started. MTI relys mostly on your trainer to "mold" you as a driver during your 4-6 weeks of on the road training. The cost is only $500. They will cover your motel costs. The remaining $1500 is held as credit until you complete 1 year of employment with Millis Transfer. The only problem... Their school is not an accredited driving school. If for any reason you decide to leave Millis before your obtain 1 years experience, you may have trouble finding employment or may have to attend driving school again.
As far as Millis Transfer; I enjoyed working for them ('03-'06). The only reason I left was to take care of my grandmother. When I am able to go back to driving, they will be the first I call.

Dannymack, I reccomend the Millis. In addition to KC'S comment I will say they were the best deal out there overall when I was checking out schools to go otr for a couple of years. The training was top notch. They had a lot of freight running through PA which might give you better hometime and miles combined. Like KC, If I ever choose to go otr again, they would be the first to call because they never lied about anything they promised, and everyone I spoke to was respectful. Thier shippers/recievers were very respectful towards drivers compared to others that talk to you like dirt. If you have not made a decision, and have the $500, it is a rewarding experience, and will not take you forever to pay for the training.

Job training

Danny mack, I've herd of millis's school and they seem to be on the up and up. You should beable to recieve some good training from them. After school you will be placed with an experienced driver to recieve the remainder of your training. Danny mack as a veteran driver of almost 30 yrs. nad a driver trainer of 15yrs. here are some suggestions I would offer you to help you with your final training. 1) Be paient with your trainer he or she my take there time with you based on what they feel your abilities are. 2) Dont get frustrated with yourself if you feel you make a mistake... IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN... just remeber to learn from them so it dosnt happen agian.. thats what makes a good driver!! 3) Ask questions.... when you see your trainer doing somthing you don't understand... then ask of him why he's doing what he is.... Danny mack I have a saying I tell my own trainees.... STUPID MAN DON'T ASK NO QUESTIONS AT ALL... SMART MAN ASKS STUPID QUESTIONS. 4) Take the time to read EVERYTHING the company gives you pertaining to doing your job. study your company driving manuel from cover to cover. 5) One of the most important things to have with you is a note book... make note of evert thing your trainer explains to you.. this will help you to understand the company you are going to work for.. and also if you have other questions to ask of your trainer this will help you remember them.
Dannymack I hope these suggestions will help you. I wish you the best of luck... Trucking is a rewarding career with alot of satisfaction... after all ... if it wasnt I would'nt have been doing it for nearly 30 yrs. God Bless jetgang
