Here is a test of some of the most popular diesel additives. These were tested through spicer, and they have ZERO bias as to the brand of the additive as they were sent to the lab with random numbers on the container.

This study was conducted and sponsored by Dieselplace.com

Bio diesel seems to be the best fuel to run, and optilube XPD seems to be the best additive.

I know that when I service my truck, I fill my fuel filt with lucas & have always saw better m.p.g. that more than paid for the product. truck started easier too. I tend to go on personal experience rather then a study.

ULSD you buy at the pump is already 2% biodiesel, like the blend they made for their study that showed the best results.

If you look at the bottom of the chart on the last page, they say that the alcohol in the "worse than baseline" products might be throwing off the test results. This is a fancy way of saying "This test isn't accurate, it has no way of measuring all the variables."

I'll take the experience of someone like HHSS, who has 1.3 million on a set of injectors, over a study done by a diesel pickup truck website any day.

On the biodiesel-I wish it was more practically available to blend. I ran 100% bio in my pickup (95 Ford Powerstroke) for about a year in 06-07. It ran quieter, accelerated smoother, smoked less, and got better fuel mileage. I'd love to run about 10-15% in my big truck all the time, or at least be able to try it.

The reason you do not want alcohol used anymore in fuel is it emulsifies the water so it goes threw the filter, the injectors have such small holes, and such high preasure, the emulsified water damages the injectors.
The older engine had very low injection preasures the new ones are in the 30,000 lb range.
I did engine all my life and never found a cure in a bottle.
"CAT" use to have a saying buy clean fuel and keep it clean, never seen one engine manufacturer promote any additive.
I have seen systems covered in cow magnets, and he swore he got better mileage.
To each his own. Personally I do not use any of them we have bio in our area. Works for me.

I think the Lubricity Additive is new on the scene because of the new usld fuel. I tried lucas fuel treat over 11 years ago. only use when I sevice my truck. every 10,000 miles. after filling up my davco I pour the rest in the tanks. I have used lucas oil on oil changes. does IT do any good? I know it raises oil pressure. I cannot say if dos any good. I can say i.m.o. it did not hurt, cause went over 1.3 mil miles & then had inframe done & internal engine components looks great. shop believed I could of went to 2 mil mils. bearings, gear train lookedd great too. some have said they had reduced m.p.g. with lucas oil additive. not me. I dont endorse products or condem them.
I just try to see what works for me. just like 2 exact trucks rolling off the assembly line. 1 will have problems at a time the other will not. 2 light bulbs installed new, 1 will go out before the other. so wether I have had good experience beacause of lucas or despite it is up for grabs.

one reason for taking any study with a grain of salt is the past studies, remember these. eggs are bad for you. years later, study shows eggs are not bad for you. study.. the egg yolk is bad for you. years later the egg yolk may not be bad for you. study...coffee is bad for you. years later coffee is not bad for you the caffiene is, decaf is better. years later study shows decaf is worse than regular coffee. new study shows the benefits of drinking coffee. yeah getting off topic, but this is just my example of why I dont take studies as gospel. I dont even take the gospel as gospel. now we're getting way off topic. just having some fun while posting an honest opinion. :biggrin_25522:

FYI - Most diesel fuel at the pump, here in OZ has bio in it some are 10% and some are 20% bio.
