clutch howl

    Around 5000 miles ago I had a reman 10 speed transmission and a new Eaton clutch installed. I am getting a loud howling/ rattle noise at high rpms. When I press my foot on the clutch petal halfway into the free play (not pressing it far enough to engage the clutch) the noise stops. The noise only occurs at high rpms when accelerating, the harder I work the engine the louder it gets. If I hit a hill and start pulling hard it gets really loud. It stops doing it when I slightly press the clutch. I am not engaging the clutch when I press it I still have some free travel left. STUMPED!:biggrin_25511:

    It could be the cluth release bearing, or as we call it the thrust bearing. Give it a squirt of grease and see if it helps.

    If it's not the release bearing it could be weak springs in the disc. Is the disc new or reman. I've seen that problem with a couple of reman discs.

    New. Grease did nothing still makes the noise.

    Sounds more like input shaft bearing inside the transmission... not the pilot bearing
