2006 FL Columbia with s60 Detroit in it.
Hi,
My engine started smoking a little the other day. I saw the smoke was coming from a small hose sticking out the bottom of the engine. The hose is supper oily and apears to be mounted there and not broken. It was about an inch in diameter and looked in pretty bad shape. Does anyone know what this hose is? It seems to smoke every once in a while but not all the time.
Oily hose under engine?

It sounds like it is an extension of the blowby tube. what your seeing is normal.
Richter Thanks this. -
Follow it back up, it should lead to the rear passenger side of the valve cover. That's your breather tube, and the vapor is crankcase blowby. Normal for it to be a bit slimy.
Richter Thanks this. -
And you sounded so knowledgeable in those other threads.
Freightlinerbob, Hammer166, claytonr1973 and 10 others Thank this. -
Check the oil filler cap for white foam, and the outlet tube for water droplets. If the blow-by is more than normal it could be the turbo by-passing air to the crankcase or internal air leakage, Valve guides or rings.
Just a thought!Richter Thanks this. -
SOoooo, let me get this straight. You don't know what a blowby tube is on a truck you own, yet you have argued in other threads that you know better than most others on how to operate a truck. SMFH!

C.R. ENGLAND didn't tell you what it was when you signed the lease??

Tie it to a tree and back up real fast. If any of the pistons come out with it you've got real trouble.
