Whats wrong with my 95

ive been an owner/oper for 17yrs and never had a problem with the year of my truck.the last company i leased on with had no age limits on trucks.but it seems like thats the new trend these days.i have been looking for something newer but cant swallow making payments on a truck when i have a nice one sitting in the front yard..oh well i guess you just have to do what you have to do to stay in business.what would you or have you done when this problem happened to you? thanks for letting me vent. Walt

The company I am leased to has a 5 year limit as well. They also have a 10,000 hour limit on reefers. You can grandfather in once you get leased on but thats the only way. But they dont pay to bad so it helps out.

I've got an 86, I know how you feel. There is companies out there but they are not real common, and then you still have the FL thing. Landstar will take any age as long as it passes dot inspection but they make you do three a year instead of one and I don't think there FL freight is too strong even though they are based there. Funny how everyone is based in FL but there is never any freight there. Must be so they can kep there mansions when they go belly up and steal our money.

Well MM to try and spread some light on it as to why they are based in FL I believe has to do primarily with tax law. Believe me, I just found out Thursday morning that my wife wants a divorce so even though my truck isn't ready I hauled ### to VA and will be ready to run over to London, KY to get it when it is. Long story short I am moving my operation to VA but keeping it based in FL for tax purposes. I will be in much better freight lanes here but in FL I don't have to pay state tax as there is no state tax in FL. If I registered my Pete in VA I would have to pay sales tax (depreciated as the value of the truck does for accounting) every year.... Way too much money going out for no reason. We have property there and will keep it as my folks (who are retired) have way too many vehicles that they don't want to keep paying sales tax on over and over etc. I am sure there are a lot of other financial reasons but I know the tax thing is a huge expense... Just my .02

Sorry to hear about the divorce cowboy, but cant you get your company you're gonna lease on to let you use their authority and get exempt from tax as a rolling stock? I never ever paid a sales tax on any equipment i have bought, truck or trailer, used my ICC every time on them.... I am not to sure but i think new mexico is the only state that doesent allow that, maybe IL too.

No lease guys, I have my own authority. Right now I don't feel the need to tie in with any particular company rather than I would try to set a haul for several suppliers etc. I am not against it if they do what they offer and treat me like they want to be treated I may change my mind, but I have always been a go straight to the source kind of guy and will ee where that takes me. Thank god I just started my trucking business and will be back on the road shortly.... if they get my bunk installed this week. My truck is in London, KY, my trailer is in Tampa and I am in VA.... what a mess but it is better than nothing at this time. Least I have a roof over my head for sure with bright shiny wheels...LOL
