    USX drivers...how's your day??

I've been thinking about this thread for several days and finally decided we needed one just to keep up with each other.....and who knows....maybe one day we'll run into one another somewhere

I am currently sitting at the terminal in Olive Branch waiting on getting my truck fixed, AGAIN. What brought me in this time was getting hit by a deer a few nights ago in the boonies of PA. It also looks like I need a new starter, it's time for the truck's PM, and my Driver Tech needs some help. I have no navigation, it likes to jump from one screen to another, scroll through the emails, and sometimes is slow as molasses on a winter morning.

Breakdown pay does help with sitting here...plus I'll get a 34 out of it which will give me hours needed to get home this week...LOL Yesterday they said my parts wouldn't be in until Monday, but about 6:00 last night I was told they were in already.

Sorry to hear you're broke down. Sounds like your making the best out of it tho, thats all you can do. A little rest, even a forced rest, can be a good thing sometimes. We broke down once in Omaha, at the beginning of Labor day weekend, so no parts were coming in till tues. We rented a car and went to visit some relative not too far away. A good driver has to make a positive out of any situation that pops up. Sometimes thats a little hard to do, but its how you keep your blood pressure down!

Well, day TWO of driving our own truck was great. We have met so many awesome people at this company (including the OP). We stopped in Tunnel Hill since it was on our route to get the interior lights fixed. Seems like a little problem but when the lights over the dash stay on for 10 to 15 minutes every time you open the door, night driving becomes ....problematic. Also the alley dock at the Walmart DC last night was a bit difficult with my night vision shot. We are heading to Elk Grove Village IL with 44,000 pounds in back. Sounds like the weather will clear out ahead of us (fingers crossed on that)

Glad your first delivery went well!! Geezzzz.....you two must have a bright star of good fortune following the both of you. Let's see: finding each other and married last July (?); both getting the WIA funding for your CDL's; both being fortunate to be assigned excellent trainers; breezing through your up-grades; as new drivers being given a brand new Cascadia (wf a radio that has both an aux jack and a USB port!); and of course a beautiful new grandchild too boot!!! While some of us may be green with envy, I think we all also appreciate and realize that all those things don't just happen by good fortune alone, but are just as much due to a lot of hard work, sacrafice and determined focus on your part. To echo another poster: WELL DONE, Craig and Anne!

Hopefully the shop can get you in and out in reasonable time and manage to fix your lighting problem. Having a brand new truck you may very well have a few other "bugs" to deal with before all is said and done. Looks like the weather is going to cooperate for you on I-24 too, if your going that way.

Just curious, did the up grade unfold anything like I described in an earlier post? (Flood's experience sounded very different from mine last March.)

Safe and Happy Trails for you both!!!

Great idea Musicgal!! USX has such a large community of drivers that its nice to have a central spot for those who want to, to be able to keep track of each others whereabouts. The Watkins Shephard group has a similar thread that gets a lot of activity. Hope your parts come in and you can get rolling again soon!

Yes, I suppose we do not take no for an answer very easily.

I live my life believing things will work out and people will do the right thing. I would prefer to be surprised when things do do not work out or people do not do the right thing than worried about it. We make friends everywhere we go and you never know who is willing to help you just because you brought a smile to their face. We have met the coolest people because we are happy.

Your post was very helpful and very accurate. What was obvious was that they want you to succeed. There was a driver here who failed the backing and they gave him another shot, in my opinion his trainer failed to give him the required instruction. I reached that conclusion after talking to him and also to his trainer. He had a lot of support and when he did it the next day he aced it.

The big difference at upgrade is that I do not believe the simulator is "non-graded" any more. It appeared to be graded but it was not discussed. Everyone who completes upgrade is on e-logs and all trainers are being converted over to e-logs pretty quickly.
