How do OTR drivers do it? Sitting for so long with no breaks?

I know you didn’t direct this to me but my thoughts are with local you never leave work
Up early. Work late. Home for shower and dinner then bed

Not always but guys I know who tried it that was their experience

OTR and especially if O/O you may be gone but have many more options

I typically run 3 weeks out and 2-3 weeks off

Yea you’re right. I do local and just get home, shower, sleep then wake up for work. I wish I had taken another OTR position. I had one offered to me that was 3 weeks on, 1 week off. At least then I would be able to enjoy some time at home. But they called me right after I started working this new job. I might apply for another OTR position soon.

 

Dude, if that was my life I’d be looking for another carrier... I might not run as hard as some of the “true truckers” but dang, there is more to life than 11 on and 10 off...

just my two cents worth.

 

Bingo that's it . You get out what you put in , many guys won't do the 10 hours off and roll . You'll drive mornings, day, evenings , nights. Once I started doing that my income #### near doubled , only on oversized loads do I have to hold my horses and be solar powered.

 

10-4 super trucker be sure to show us those baseball kidney stones or them pete branded depends.

 

The seat cushion is every truck I've driven, except Freightliner, was comfortable enough I could sit on it all day long. For the Freightliner I use a "purple" seat cushion. I bought it from Amazon.

 

While I agree, there is more to life than trucking. Everyone is going to run how they want. If you want to take your time that's entirely up to you. The drivers that run hard are making the most money. But the point I was trying to make is the OP needs to stop every 1.5 hours because his rear-end is sore and he need to stretch. He would starve on the road....

I doubt most truckers are pissing in a bottle while trying to shift gears. You spend 99.999% of your time in high gear. At that point, WTF is the difference? A manual transmission is a way to translate limited RPM range from an engine into a wide road speed range in a vehicle. People who think it's anything other than that seem to forget a lot of dumb mother####ers have managed to learn how to drive one. I learned how to drive in a twin-stick Marmon. If I held that as some sort of standard that mattered, it would disqualify 95% of people on this forum from being "real truckers". See how F'n stupid that is? Especially since I'm about as far from being a "real trucker" as you can possibly be.

Maybe take your hand off that big black shiny knob for a minute and go check your load securement.
