    It’s fun when you got 4 or 5 fat boys that can cook and trying to out do each other— not so much when it’s just you and your apprentice and the apprentice is a squid and there’s bikini clad hard bodies walking past on the way to the river— I even lost focus once or twice

    That would be the mounting side of the front cinch, tied with the cinch Latigo. Some folks do the same for the off side as well.

    However, on a working cowboys saddle there is a front cinch AND a flank girt. The flank girt is around the soft belly and cant be done up tight. Therefor it requires a billet on each side. I also use a billet for the off side of the front cinch.

    The flank girts main purpose is to keep the saddle from tipping forward when a cowboy ropes a critter and dallys off to his saddle horn. Without the flank girt there is a high possibility that once that critter goes to pulling hard before turning the horse away from the load the rear of the saddle will flip up forward. Lets just say this rarely ends well, as thats about the time things start to get western.

    Unless you have 3/4 rigging. I don't think I've seen a back cinch with them.

    Yep, you're defiantly buying into the entire "Horse Lifestyle" then you only have friends that are into horses, and they live the horse lifestyle too.

    That what the old timers called a Centerfire rigging? I grew up around a couple of them that never used a flank and they would tie off in the morning and cut it loose at the barn when they got back and never missed a loop that I can remember
