That might work, I am tempted to take this all the way to trial and explain to a jury about the 2 miles and see if they think I was being unsafe and if the 2 mile difference is worthe me loseing my job and messing up my record over.

We went on duty this morning at 3:00 A.M, drove 15 min to drop location for a 3:30 appointment, 2 1/2 hrs on duty not driving and another 15 min back to truck stop. At 6:30 A.M we went off duty at truck stop. Dispatch sends qualcomm at 11:15 with load for pickup and delivery total mileage of 340 miles, 7 hrs drive time. We run out of hours at 5(from one end of LA to the other) Dispatch said use the 8 and 2 split. How would that have helped. I don't think we can even use it to benefit us in this instance. It isn't the driving hours that gets us, it's the 14. If I understand the split 10 correctly the 2 hr portion can be used to extend drive time but not 14. We didn't have 8 hrs off duty so can't use the split anyway.....correct????????:biggrin_2556::biggrin_25521:

If registration expired yesterday on the truck & renewal has been applied for/not received, may the truck move on public roads or pull a load, or must current registration be present (in cab)? I've been asked for insurance, registration & IFTA at scales. BOL needed for roadside inspections. Is insurance invalid without current registration? I've heard that without current registration, DOT "authority" is void. What exactly is this "authority"? AFAIK, IFTA, insurance, registration, truck & trailer annual inspection & plates make up the basic credentials needed to move a rig. Permits are only required for loads over 80K/102" & in certain jurisdictions. When bobtail out of state, I've been asked for registration & IFTA.

Is there any less/different requirements for bobtail & empty? I've heard logging (line 3) may not be required when bobtail.

    Thanks!

I want to be a for real D.O.T guru...how does one go about it? Schooling?
I'm serious....my relaxation is reading the little green book...and digging on the D.O.T. website.

From what I understand, there is a grace period of 30-90 days (I think.) It's pretty common for trucks to be without registration while the application grinds slowly through the system. As long as it's been applied for, and not denied, you can keep on rolling until they eventually get around to sending it to you.

Your dispatcher has been driving his desk too fast again. The only way that might work is if you rewrote your logs, which is what he was probably suggesting. Ignore him.

It doesn't talke long with this company to figure out that you have to ignore all of the dispatchers. They preach legal, but constantly dispatch loads you can't make if you run legal...I suspect unemployment will be here soon because he won't run a load he can't make the delivery time on legally. I suppose in some circles that's not the way to run, but to our way of thinking it's better than the fines and out of service penalties...

WOW- I just found this thread and I've been thinking about going DOT lately. How hard for a driver to get on with DOT?

I guess it depends on your State or the State you would want to work. Some State's they are Troopers, and you have to go through the state police Academy, work as a road trooper for a period of time and try to get transferred. Some State's they have sworn DOT officers, like Florida. Some State's have civilian inspectors that do not have police powers. I guess you would need to contact whatever jurisdiction you are interested in.
