Boy Howdey, Isn't ABF still a good place to work? I work for YRC but they have gone down the toilet! Only reason I was working here was for the pension but that's a goner now. I figure if I go owner operator I can get one of those personal 401K plans where you can stock away like 52k a year, pre-tax of course. I can just go on my wife's medical insurance which is pretty good and not that pricy. That's why I want to wait till January. I'm also sick of running the same boring I-5 freeway every night in junk equipment.
Terrence, you are right , my bad I went back and read the paperwork, yes states with terminals backhaul loads pay only 88% to the contractor.
My husband did an application for rr under a fleet owner operator to do team. Does anyone have any advice to working with a oo and how much do you average weekly? Also would he be 1099 and would this be a good.option? He has 9 mths experience otr. Had a accident with last company but was not his fault. He did not get a ticket.
Lot's of them will still pay 1099 though. They used to do that at FedEx Ground but FedEx doesn't let them anymore. Not sure how roadrunner does it.
Sorry, wasn't ignoring you. ABF is just making too many changes for me. Slowing getting rid of the road drivers (Me) and going to more U.E. drivers. Last contract sucked, lost a weeks vacation and 7% pay cut. More outside carriers pulling our trailers now. Looks like E-logs with cameras are coming pretty soon. E-logs don't bother me, but the camera does. It's just not worth it anymore. I don't enjoy it, and the future doesn't look for me here.
Pretty much the same reasons I'm leaving YRC. The days of the good paying union carriers are over. We got raped and asked for more! I can't wait to have more freedom to do what I want and finally drive a truck that goes faster than 64.
Just did my App for RR's sister company R&M. Weeks of researching the company and the Lease option. Looks all good to me. Anyone here run for R&M?
