Born and raised in Laramie, WY, now live in casper, WY... Windsor co is a hub of activity for the northeast colorado oil field. from reports over on the oilfield trucking forum, south of greeley co to Denver, housing has become tight, and prices have increased. 50 miles north is Cheyenne, WY also a hub for the same oil fields. Cost of living is lower there than windsor. Colorado has state income tax, and a higher sales tax rate than wyoming.

As for the weather, you will get all 4 seasons, with a few days of bitter cold, a few days of heavy snow, some windy days, some hot days. Most of the towns are your rural farming towns. Greeley is a slaughter town, and smells.

Windsor was a town built around the Kodak plant. Was hit by a major tornado in may of 2008, then by 2010 the kodak plant closed. So windsor has been rebuilding from a one two punch. The oil companies have taken over the kodak plant location.

thanks TLeaHeart. The job is not in the oilfield but with the same company so I think I can retain my seniority and bennies. It would be almost the exact opposite of the oilfield and a very laid back experience as far as the hours and driving goes. I have my 5th wheel so I only need an RV space to park it in. Also I would still retain my Texas residency for tax purposes.

After enduring the ice storms here in the Midland area I would be more apprehensive of the winter season but I know there's a better chance of just snow instead of the ice. Snow I can handle and the highway dept. would have better equipment to deal with mother nature than here in Texas.

I am also concerned about the costs associated with living in that area. I will not be making oilfield type wages but still decent money. They have been losing their drivers to the oilfield so the lure of the big bucks must be overpowering to those who have not had a taste of oilfield life (or lack thereof).

never experienced an ice storm in the area... snow is so much easier to deal with, and it melts so quickly...and colorado does know how to deal with snow.

Cost of living in the area, has always been higher than what I am use to in wyoming. I am spoiled by the low cost of living here.

I totally understand the money/lack of life in the oil field, which is why I also made the move out, yet still in a support area.

That sucks. I hit bad weather in Colorado and in Oklahome but nothing like I heard about Kentucky. Hope you get out soon and rolling again.

Me too. Sitting in the Prime Portland drop yard for the night, ran out of hours.

Whitewater, WI waiting to be offloaded. Traversing Kentucky yesterday was unpleasant.

My mother was a Cahoone and her mother O'Riley, so guess I'm qualified to give you trouble here!
Seriously, though, I have exactly one year driving time as of today. Spent 5 months at a company that wasn't so "swift", and the last 7 at a company I dearly love with a Cascadia I've had since 15 miles on iy, but get "express"ly low miles/pay. I can drive 9 to 11 hours in a 12 hour shift, can't stand the detention times here.
Shaffer says I can average 2900 miles a week, but how much of that is Northeast? I spent 3 months on teams before I bailed, as I did 66% of the driving but got 50% of the check, but loved the long East Coast /West Coast runs. However, as a solo I was in the middle of the last 3 blizzards and I'm a Florida boy.
