We have Regions Bank debit card, never had problems with it being restricted. Husband did use it in Sterling, IL, Walmart and the number was swiped and used again in Jefferson City, MO when he was in the Syracuse. NY area. Took a couple of months to get the money back finally.

According to the roads you run, you might need some pocket change for tolls, esp in the FL area, or I-44 area if MO. Company drivers then would most usually send in the receipt for reimbursement.

I use the credit card most of the time because it's easier to dispute charges if something funny happens.

Occasionally it happens to me, and I simply call them and tell them. I run all 48 and have for many years, and this year they shut my card down until I called them.

most companies offer cash advances on fuel cards. Check the fees, the last one I had was no fee for advance with fuel and $2 without fuel. Why pay ATM fees if you can get the cash with no fee ?

I use a local bank and have had a lot of card shutoff's. It's usually resolved with a short phone call. It's kind of a hassle, but it makes me feel good if someone did steal my card they would probably catch it.

I recommend the Paypal card as backup, makes it easy for someone to get you money in an emergency.

Ken Worth and Ducks Thank this.

They figure it out pretty quick. I think I got a few automated fraud alert calls in 2001 when I started driving. In 2005 I purchased a new laptop at a Las Vegas Best Buy and they shut my card off. Big ticket items at electronic stores in Vegas I am assuming send a red alert to the banks. I had dinner and some drinks later that night and the card was denied. Luckily I had a backup card.

I went with Bluebird by American Express. After my bank decided to freeze my account a few times i look for a quick way to send my wife money and i happened to find Bluebird at walmart. I bought myself and my wife both a card ($9.95 each) got it in the mail a week later. Set up my direct deposit on it and everytime i get paid i can send my wife money with the bluebird app. Does not cost any money to put more money on the card. Can link multiple cards to my account (my kids) send and recieve money. if i do need to put money on the card any walmart does it. when i need to put money in the bank i just have my wife deposit it. Also the card has a set-aside account(Savings). Basically this is a checking/savings account without the hassle of going to a bank to setup. Oh and the monthly maintenance fee: $4.95. that is it. nothing else.
Using it so far for 2+ years and never a problem.

First of all, be more careful with your private info. We dont need to know who you bank with. Protect your identity.

Secondly, I use a reloadable care that way I dont have to worry about overdraft fees and can use anywhere. Beats having bank fees etc.

Well let's ee, I usually use cash, but then again, I am not OTR like some of you, so to carry a large amount on me is not done.

I do have a credit card, I do have a debit card.

But Now I also have my AAA Auto Membership card, which is an American Express card, which i can load up. I never use it, but reading about some of the shut-off's, I' am wondering since it's an AmEx card, if I'd have the same problem. When I get around to it maybe later today, I'll stop in at the AAA and find out if I have to notify anyone about my usage of it in any other state.

    Good thread.

Very true and I've got out of some jams in the past. But somebody said that TX is a hotbed of fraud activity. I agree.
We had our debit card scammed in a truckstop in MN of all places.
We never did find out how they do it and luckily we got the $1800 back. It was scammed again in PA too on the same date. Go figure. Wife's had her CC compromised at least once.
These credit card co are on the ball though. They're watching really closely.
Ive been a member of Lifelock for a few years, but really. Does it do any good.
Im not so sure but we won't be on the hook for the loss.
i bet it's costing the CC companies $$billions a year.
