Volume isn't the issue. Rates are about average across the board. Obviously some of the good customer loads pay much better. Military always pays decent. Canadian freight on customer loads pay great. Just keep in mind, he won't like seeing the flat rates when he is always looking at the board. If you really can't get him to pull flatbed at a flatbed company, I hope he is willing to work to make money. Slammin doors at Mercer will require him to think outside the box. It's possible, but not easy.
I met a bunch of them at the truck show. It was the same guys that I've always (2 previous times) seen at the yard. They get nice special shirts and jackets to wear.
