Who makes "PACCAR" engines?

Cat has not made on highway engines since 2010. If you buy a new Kenworth or Peterbilt your choice is Cummins or Paccar.

 

You rarely see anything new with a Detroit engine unless its a freightliner because they own Detroit engine... I was raised around Cummins, cummins powers everything from the farm tractors, pickups, field generators, and class 8 trucks... my pappy and my dad both swear by cummins. If its not cummins powered they won't buy it... I personally wouldn't own a paccar engine, theres no real history or industry leading awards to back up its name like Cummins..

 

It's my understanding the problem with all the new motors is the Emissions stuff ... all the reputation, history, and industry leading awards don't mean squat today after you add the new emissions junk.

 

Paccar engine are the only ones with B50 rating rest of the engines are B10, bought two trucks last year with cummin engines never again will make that mistake. Got rid of them for a dd15 n mx13. No problems at all with thr Dd15, only issue with mx13 was one of the sensors on the DPF

 

Who ever designed it should be SHOT. I drive a 2016 579 Pete. It had a major recall. The cam had to be replaced. In order to do that, the motor had to come out of the truck...yes..you read it right, a motor removal for a cam. I guess the engineers designed it with the bull gear in the back of the motor, but didn't take into account that there is no dog house to remove so they could slide the cam out. These boy's will never be called by NASA. There were a couple of year model's for Pete and KW that had this same cam issue.

 

Obviously covered under warranty ... but how long was your down time to complete the repair?

 

Shouldn't really matter how long it took but the fact that it took twice as long because the engine had to be removed. I rank that design right up there with International putting a frame cross member underneath the oil pan on the Lonestar which required the cross member(attached with large huck rivets)to be removed to drop the oil pan.

 

My 2013 kw t660 with the paccar mx I just traded in has 890,727 mi on it. Only in shop 1 time for unscheduled emissions issues. It did not use oil at all no leaks. 30k oil changes with factory filters. Never ran bio diesel in it. Where I ran it only burned straight ulsd. Lifetime fuel mileage was 6.5. It got driven fast avg speed 72. Mostly 75,80 mph states out west with tight delivery schedules.
4% idle time lifetime.

4 overheads, dpf bakes,egr cooler flushes, egr valve cleaned, sensors serviced, and def filter changed
Alldone on 200k increments. I did most of the work myself.
I liked the engine so I bought another one. I had really good experience with the Paccar engine. Wife and I ran team.
Now I hate to say it the Cummins engines are having a huge amt of issues with oil consumption. Never will I buy a cummins ISX. Now a N14 red top yes, but not a ISX.
