I'm telling you getting this trucking career going is hectic with a million things to get lined up and set up.

Between being ready for companies to call me whenever that is there is so much preparation to do. I missed a call today because I was working didn't see the missed call until 3 hours later.

I gotta make sure I got the right steel toe shoes I have steel toe sneakers I just bought from Walmart but not sure if they want boots.

Then I gotta contact my credit cards because I don't want to set off fraud alert and have my accounts locked because I'll be driving all over the country.

Then I gotta get direct deposit papers from my bank because I don't use checks to give my employer a blank check.

Then I gotta order my road atlas online because no stores carry the motor carrier ones just regular atlas for 4 wheelers.

Then I gotta get all my #### together for the trip out to school and remember everything I need to bring.

    And then
    And then
    And then...

    #### is exhausting getting started but it's gonna be worth it I hope.

I've never needed steel toe shoes, even places that have it listed as a requirement never bothered me.

    Truck stops sell trucker atlas.

I would wait on the atlas and buy one at a truck stop. Steeltoes unless youll be in flatbed or tanker I doubt youll need them.

If I go to Stevens they say steel toe boots are required. I wear these steel toe sneakers as my regular shoe. Just not sure if they need actual boots. I will ask.

I’ll make it easy for you.

Don’t go to Stevens if you have other options.

Steel toes? Bleh. Another good reason not to go to Stevens.

It’s not that complicated - look at one thing, and knock it out. Don’t look at the overall picture and get stressed about ALL this stuff I have to do RIGHT NOW.

You eat an elephant one bite at a time....

Go to a big truckstop. There should be one within a hour or two of you. Pick up a motor carriers atlas on site.

Get a briefcase, a basic standard one. Throw everything into it as you go. Open it and get whatever you need out when asked for it. (After you have everything.) Leave some room you will be tossing in about a half inch of company forms to fill out on each trip prior to trip pack drop.

Don;t let the details get to you. One thing at a time. In all my time out there I never used a credit card with one exception in the pre-cell phone days. I had a ATT card that was good for a few hundred dollars a month in calls even a little international once or twice. In time the cell got the money and the pay phones went away.

Come to think on it, there will be more to think about as you go about your new solo runs.

He can get the same truckers road atlas online for half the price.
Everywhere I've worked required steel toed shoes, even reefer outfits. I realize that not all companies require them, but every one I worked for did.

I love my steel toe sneaker boots from Walmart. Comfortable and don't look like steel toed. I've bought the same style for 10 years, my wife makes fun of me for it.
My company also provided me my atlas. When you find a company, ask if they provide it before buying one. Be sure to get your loves and pilot/flying J reward cards too before buying it if you need to so the points count.

Just relax, take one decision at a time. It can be overwhelming at times but if you rush, more mistakes are bound to happen.
    Good luck
