I was wondering if you ended up trying that pump ya had. Those cummins 1-1/4" gear pumps move more than enough fuel to an N14 to make them run. I know you said it's kinda rough idling, but man i tell ya those Celect/Celect plus injectors don't have trim codes like Cat or flow calibration codes like Detroits, so there's no way to tighten them up to smooth anything and compensate through the ECM settings. What you get is what you get with those Cummins injectors. One option is to find a core set and send them to a good diesel shop like Diesel Controls in Massilon, OH. Have them all rebuilt, flowed balanced and calibrated as a matched set. That's just my opinion.
I like that visor. I had not seen that style for a 9300. Where in the world did you get that???? Looks good!
@snowman_w900 we had a trucker in the yard the other day to load corn and he had a Cummins isx I believe. When I listened to it idle it was awful, I thought a rod was going to come through the block! I asked the guy about it and said that's normal. I've been around CATS my whole life and they just purr. Are all the later Cummins engines like that?
I have considered something like that, but the stinkin thing doesn’t act like an injector. It’s not ever a hard miss, and it’s predictable. You can always bet that if you let it set all night and then start it, it’ll be smooth as glass for a while. Seems like the longer it runs, the rougher it gets. That’s why I’ve been chasing the air in the fuel idea. I’ve had 3 sets of injectors in it with absolutely no change. I know it’s CAPABLE of running smooth, because it does it at times. The roughness is mainly at idle. You lay into the throttle and she smooths up and pulls. Starting to wonder if it’s not a sensor. Boost sensor maybe. No codes, but maybe one is giving a false reading to the ECM. You’re large car still gettin down the road alright? You don’t post enough pics of that rig....
The 855's and N14's have a fuel knock at idle when they are sure nuff right. Or that's my opinion any way.
There are a couple variations of the ISX. They first started around the year 2000. It was only offered in 600hp/ 2050 tq. The guys i know that had a couple actually had good luck with them. Then years later they turned it into the ISX and you could get lower horse models. They phased out the N14 once they offered the lower horse ISX. The ISX does have that old school compressor knock sound like the old big cams had, so they do sound unique, but those dual overhead cams and extra valve train I'm sure added to the noise. I've heard some that are smooth, some that are rattling like bolts in a tin can. The newer ISX15 went to a single over head cam and a common rail setup, so those are pretty smooth for The most part.
I mean coming out of your gear pump to the front and rear head. I can't remember on the N14 but the old 855's just fed the rear head, we always put a tee in pressure and return to go to front of front head and rear of rear. Might be a wives tell but I heard that helps them get rid of air
