So if you show up to a shipper for a load that is expected to be tarped and they dont have a fall protection system, you wont haul the load?
depends on the load. Absolutely will not tarp off their property. If not allowed to tarp there then it doesn't get tarped, period, not negotiable. big difference between a 4ft tarp and 8ft, especially if they also refuse to lift the tarp up onto that 8 ft load. Climbing a ladder with a tarp between 70 and 110 lbs makes no sense at all to me. I don't need to be macho and prove how tough I am. I'd rather prove how I can stay alive and unhurt.
I agree with you. With 4 footers I personally dont even like having to wear a harness or anything but with the 8 footers I do. How many times have you refused to haul a load because of the shipper not having a safety system in place? Any place that tells me I have to pull off the property to tarp will be unloading the freight off my trailer, I dont play that game either. I think this year I've used my 8 footers maybe a dozen times, pretty sure ive made my mind up to just take them off the truck for 2019... I can do fine without them.
I've refused twice and ended up hauling it without tarps. I do not accept a load with 8' tarp so the load info was wrong. I don't care whose fault that is. I know an agent that lists 8ft loads as 4 ft tarps. "everyone knows you can turn a 4 ft tarp and cover an 8 ft load" is what they say. Uh, no, I have 16 x 20 tarps, that won't cover 8 ft.
I've done 19 loads in a row now out of the same place (not dedicated just lucky). Info says 25K machinery and 4 ft tarp. that eliminates a lot of interest. However the load needs a pallet 36x36 and 2 ft high tarped, and the weight is either 7750 or 3600 lbs. It pays to learn what our customers make.
I need some help. Replaced brakes on steers and passenger side drum driver side is in really good shape when I'm hitting brakes steering wheel shakes now. Are drive drums n steer drums the same? Maybe dealer gave me one for drives....
Republic conduit in cedar springs ga will not allow you to tarp on property but will refuse to give bol until tarped..i dealt with them last week...never again will i ever go there.
No they are not the same. Rear drums are a wider than the front drums. No comparison. Sounds like you have a out of round drum on the front or one that did not get seated in all the way. In other words a burr on the hub/ Alan
Technically, legally, a BOL is a required item. So to exit onto a public roadway it would be illegal to do so without a BOL, thus you cannot leave the property without it. As if you would win that argument.
I'd imagine if you call Mercer with a scenario where you feel unsafe tarping or whatever they will tell you to have the customer just unload it. I've had 2 times now where I've had to call Mercer because the customer wanted me securing the freight a certain way I wasnt comfortable with nor was I going to do it that way. Of course the shippers famous words both times "Well everyone else does it that way".... Both times Mercer backed me up.
