Best job for the man with no life.

Just bored tonight and going fishing for ideas from those who have seen/experienced more than I have.

I’m socially retarded and have no friends or family. I basically live in my truck.

Question: if you had no life and no reason ever go home, what would be the best way to earn the most money in this industry.

I’ve seen post from guys who say they could earn six figures if they had no family to worry about going home to, but I don’t see how to earn that. Not sure if its ########.

I’m relatively happy with my current job company driver OTR earning 56 cpm, just wondering if I could be doing better than that.

4 years experience, all endorsements + TWIC. No accidents, no tickets, clean DAC.

 

I believe it all boils down to how many miles are you getting now. Company is sometimes easier I think, the only bad thing is is they route plan you down every cowtrail there is between point A & B. If you are getting at least 2500 miles a week, that should be giving you some profit to set aside and save, perhaps even more than a Lease operator in the long run, if more miles then that is even better as long as you are not running yourself to death. The market to me will have a slowdown I bet, and jumping ship may not be great.

Hopefully you have an inverter and apu on your truck so as to make your life easier, and the cost of eating out a lot cheaper. Keurig coffee pots are also handy to have on board for coffee when you're stuck at a shipper/receiver or rest area with no amenities. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence till you get there sometimes. Others may not think this and chirp in somewhere with more ideas for or against a move.

 

A job like Sperry Rail Service, just not Sperry. You will live in hotels and be gone for months and months. Or a concert tour driver.

 

Money?

1000 mile haul assigned at .50 a mile to you. Assume up to a 20% difference in actual ground miles, plan accordingly.

When delivery is completed by the morning of day three of your run including pickup you now are a proud owner of a $500 dollar paycheck.

Taxes 40% poof leaving you about oh... 290 or so net for two days running.

Plan the next 4 days until payday that week on 20.00 a day max. Leave the 210.00 in cash ready to go at any time.

Your next 1000 mile haul becomes about 420.00 in the bank.

At the end of month one. you are close to 1000.00 golden. Give you a year? 12000

How much do you love that 12,000 dollars in your pocket a simple year from now with a bit of driving?

It might be 24,000 or even 36,000 by the time your body and spine burns up and you have become fed up and quit trucking you should literally be able to pick a spot anywhere in USA< buy 5 acres and build your hovel and be happy the rest of your days.

 

Why would you need more money if you have no life? I mean even if you only made 600$ a week and all you had was a phone bill you would still be saving tons of money seeing that you never go home. I'd go looking for something that makes you happy not chasing the money .

 

I was gonna say the concert tour guys, they stay out months at a time. And ur always moving at night . and its different from regular otr freight. I seen some good looking owner ops trucks signed on to stage call i think its called. The nice trucks i seen they have to be making good money

 

If I had no life, I would make changes in who I am. Do you want to change you, or do you prefer to stay dead? Would you like to be more sociable? Say YES and we’ll come up with something. Say NO and I will leave you to RIP.

 

with out some sort of home life, or friends, you most likely have already burnt out.

in your home town, you must have at least one barbershop, one coffee shop, maybe even one fast food place, that serves breakfast.

there are many at those places that can be talkative, if you really wanted to apply yourself.

otherwise, grave stones start at about $600 (for a flat one embedded into he ground) and engraving is about $1.00 per letter) so make your grave stone say very little, so you can take all that money with you.

1st off stop chasing miles with cpm pay. Start thinking high gross revenue on the least amount miles. The market is flooded with truck capacity right now and rates are down. So its probably not a great time to look at being an o/o or lease operator (own a truck but lease onto a good carrier), but you have really have to know your #'s to be successful truck owner.

It all depends on what you're looking for in life. Me personally I cant stand dry van, too much sitting around loading and unloading, so I run flatbed. While its a pain in the ### at times, it better than the alternative. Dont be a affraid to try something new, learn some new skills.

You could always find a socially awkward chick and bring her with you, lol.
