Calex is a great company if you want respect and feel “like one of the family” great driver-dispatcher relationships. But as an owner operator, let’s just say there’s a reason there’s only 9 of us. They leave us sitting ALOT. I made 3k this month AS AN OWNER. I’ve been waiting for a load for 3 weeks and it’s not Bc I wasn’t asking for one. It’s not uncommon for me to do a west coast run and sit in Bakersfield for 4-5 days waiting for a backhaul. It’s getting ridiculous. Calex’s northeast freight doesn’t stop long enough to catch your breath. So if you go company and want miles, stay up there. It doesn’t pay enough to run your own up there, not with Calex anyways. I hope this helps anyone looking into them, there not all bad. I’ll still work here before I go back to any of my old carriers (Prime, Schneider, or Smith’s transport) only complaint is sitting. A LOT of sitting. Company trucks are most likely different, but I can’t speak for that as I’ve never drove as a CD for them.
