Is there affordable code reader that i could plug into truck '13 KW T660 cummins ISX Ive got scanner for cars, anything like that available for trucks?
Cummins InSight software. You can download it for free from the Cummins website, all you need is a laptop computer and the interface cable from your Cummins dealer. I think the cable is $119.99, at least that is what I paid for it. The software will let you enter up to 5 engine serial numbers, and works the entire on highway range of Cummins products so you can use it for your big truck and say a friend who has a Cummins in their dually pickup. As for the other codes produced by the KW body controller, trans controller, etc, the InSight software will not help with that but there are some code readers available in the few hundred dollar range that will, even some software solutions for your phone or laptop but I do not use any of them. I have a Snap On scanner for HD trucks that does this for me, but it is almost $10,000 with all the adapters and software, plus a monthly update fee.
Insite is a few hundred per year for a license and the datalink adapter is about $800. Not a good option for just a code reader. Cummins PowerSpec is a free program that does basic code reading, but you still need the adapter. You can get an ELM 327 bluetooth and adapter cable to use with the Cummins Fault Adviser app on a smart phone, that's about the cheapest way you'll find to read and clear faults. On a 2013, you should be able to retrieve faults on the dash. Google Cummins Quickserve and sign up for a free owners subscription that will have all the troubleshooting info and repair manuals.
Yeah, your right, my bad. I just had to open my laptop and look, it is PowerSpec I have for my Cummins. I don't know if they have a different datalink adapter or if my dealer gave me a good deal because I only paid $119.99 thru Campbell Freightliner.
