Looking for a reliable 12 volt coffee maker. Bought the Road Pro and it stopped working after 3 months. Don't want a glass carafe.
Get an invertor and use a regular 110v coffee maker, there are many options for size, carafe type, etc. I've yet to see or hear about a 12v coffee maker that's worth a darn. I believe a 110v coffee maker can be ran off a plug in type invertor if your company doesn't allow the bigger hard wired invertors. I had a road pro 12v years ago and besides not lasting very long it also did not have a timer so I would have to brew my coffee after I woke up and it took forever to get a pot brewed which I hated because I'm a need my coffee as soon as my eyes open type of guy.
My GF has a coffee maker with a metal carafe... I don't recall the make, but they do exist. You'll need to go to a more expensive outlet than Walmart to find one I expect.
Get an inverter as already said. If you happen to have a Kroger with the housewares section around, you can buy a single cup coffee maker with a travel mug for $20. That's what my bf did and he practically lives on coffee.
If you got 3 months out of a Road Pro 12v coffee maker then count yourself as lucky and buy a lottery ticket. As for being able to run a 110 coffee maker off a plug in style inverter, I doubt that will happen either. A 110 coffee maker generally has about an 1100w heating element which will require an inverter capable of 1200w to run it. A 1200w inverter will pull well over 20 amps (doing the math real quick in my head so may be off) but the long and the short, you can't get that kind of amperage out of a plug. At the very least, you'll blow fuses faster than you can replace them, at the worst, you'll burn the truck to the ground. I have seen 600w inverters powered off a plug but even of you we're able to get a coffee maker to run at that wattage the inverter would get very hot and probably not last longer than the 12v coffee maker.
I use a dispenser type coffee maker. Kinda like how soda machines dispense. Very good design for a truck.
If you are going to have a coffee maker you might as well go all the way with the works. I would buy at least a 1500 watt inverter if not the 2500 watt. With a fridge, microwave and TV taking up all the space I really didn't have a safe place to set a coffee maker. It would have to be one of them deals where you set it up and take it down so I found it a hassle. My coffee maker stayed in the closet more than I used it. I got in the habit of microwaving a cup of hot water and using instant with my favorite creamer. It done the job for them times you wake up in the middle of no where. I still drink it at home on occasion because I grew accustom to it. A driver would probably be better off with a 1 cup or Kuerig coffee maker. My sister has one of them carafe coffee makers. That thing keeps coffee hot all day and it maintains the freshness with no heat on it. One could make a pot with that, put the maker up and have a pot they could set beside your seat. It's sealed and you have to press a button to pour so it would ride good. Excuse me while I go pour a cup!
