Ezpass

I live in nj.. if i dont have a commercial account yet with ezpass but i do have a car ezpass tag account , can i use the cars ezpass temporarily for my class8 truck to go up the tappanzee until i get a commercial tag?

I wouldn't. 5 axle rates are a lot higher, and if they catch you it would be expensive, not just in the toll difference, but added fees, surcharges and possible fines because they would probably see it like you were trying to cheat the system.

 

They have axle counters leading into the booths. They see 5 axles but a car EZpass registers, bells and alarms and cameras will be going off. At the very least they will shut down that particular transponder until they get the issue resolved.

 

Why don't you just call the 800 number on the EZPass, ask them, rather than getting our ok for you to break the law?

 

NJ EZPASS phones and 'puter is down 10/11 till 10/16, I can't get in to check my NJ account, only our NY account.

 

Don't do it.
Register for separate account for commercial unit. They will catch you and declare you trying to cheat the system, hand you a fine probably something ridiculous like 10,000 and tell you to plead your case to the judge. That sound like fun?

Just register for commercial transponder. Doesn't take long to arrive.

 

We have 6 wheel units and 18 wheelers on the same account; the axle counters work with smaller vehicles pulling trailers too...

 

Tappan Zee has plate readers now that they pulled the booths out.

Using the wrong class of ezpass is more of an issue than not having one far as I recall.
Get a NY based ezpass if you go to the city a lot, they have better toll discounts.

 

BestPass is probably worth looking into, however it may be better suited to larger fleets.
