GPS questions are usually asked in Electronics forums where there are several threads already there that deal with this topic already. Otherwise there is no perfect GPS. Yet the Rand Mcnally does have one of its techs in that forum offering support for their product. That in itself is a big mark of approval in my book.

Gps's are like what we sit on. Everyone will tell you what they use is best. Only you can choose what is right for your life style.

Agreed. But the problem is, you essentially have to buy two different ones and run them each for a few weeks to find out their weaknesses and strengths and decide which one you like best, and that sucks. A lot of it is functionality and dependability, but also, a lot of it is personal preference in the GUI.

I have used both Garmin and RM trucker versions, but prefer the Garmin Dezl 7 series. That said, the Garmin's have more "erroneous" data in them that tend to route you longer distances unnecessarily on some routes, around "low bridges" and "weight restrictions" that don't exist in reality. But you learn how to look for bizarre routing and adjust (ignore) accordingly.

The Garmins will recalculate faster then the RM and the RM's I think have a larger and more up-to-date POI database (truck stops, etc). I prefer the GUI of the Garmin over the RM. Either one will serve you well.
