190 a day weekend off. Ok, sounds good right.... Till you multiply 13.70 x 14 hour day and you get your whopping hourly pay rate lol.

with that being said, if you were to buy a truck how hard is it to lease on or work for the CSX intermodle as an owner operator if anyone is doing it?

There's no real money in that. If your truck is paid off and you don't need to make a lot of cash then its for you.

If you want to go intermodal, Marten is a new player in the intermodal game. If they are guaranteeing $190 per day and it sounds good to you, go for it. But how stable are they in the intermodal market? If you get a chance, look at an intermodal train going down the tracks and take note of whose containers you see the most, then find a carrier that pulls those containers.

They've been at it for quite a while, at least 8-9 years now.

$950/week with weekends off should appeal to many drivers out there.fairly certain the benefits are there as well considering it is marten.

I do intermodal for JB Hunt and talked to two Marten drivers doing intermodal and they said they only gross about $800 to $850 a week. They run out of Carlisle going to the Harrisburg rail yards. It's not a good gig the pay is extremly low. You should make at least a $1,000 a week on a bad week doing this in Harrisburg PA in MA it should be more then that do to cost of living. They only have like 600 containers so not having freight can be a big problem which is not the norm for Comtrak, JB Hunt, Transnoble, etc.

You can lease on with a bunch if different companies doing intermodal work depending on your area. The only thing bad I've been told about being an owner operator for CSX is the force dispatching. I forget where that was mentioned in the intermodal forums.

They only have like 600 containers...JB Hunt has like 70,000 now, HUB group has tens of thousands, same with the Norfolk Southern EMHU containers, as well as Pacer, CSX, and Schneider is getting up to the 10,000 container range or passed it. Marten is no where near a big player in intermodal. FedEX just recently bought a bunch of containers over the last year and has a lot more then Marten and has only really just got into the container game.

    Then I'll amend my statement.

Marten, despite being in the intermodal for a number of years, they are a small player in the game and they always catch me by surprise in the rail yards because I never expect to see them there.

    joseph1135 Thanks this.
