From the police FB page..... Old Fort Rd Closed 2800 Blk Below Smith Store between Shop Ridge and Cedar Creek. Driver said he didn’t see any of the many signs. He also failed to see Squad 22 running lights and siren on Old Fort Rd from NC 9 to Bird Creek Estate trying time stop him so now he’s in the hole of shame. Fire personnel Are Not remaining on scene wasting fuel our tax payers provide funding for. Added Info: Just FYI there are official DOT signs on both ends of NC-9 Hwy at I40 in Black Mountain and at US74 & 64 intersection in Bat Cave. Once those are missed or ignored the state placed additional signage on NC-9 both north and south of the Old Fort Rd Intersection. Assuming the driver missed these there are more signs right as the turn is made in an effort for them to turn around. We’ve assisted truckers turning around at multiple points such as the intersection of NC 9 and Old Fort Rd and even at Smiths Store prior to the curve that all go off. While out conducting drivers training one of our personnel saw the truck as they were making the turn onto Old Fort Rd. In hopes of helping the trucker personnel activated emergency lights and siren following this driver for nearly a mile. He refused to yield right of way or stop. Had he stopped Personnel could have easily turned him around at the intersection sending him safely back the correct way.
