Hauling Steel I-beams and they will shred my tarps, what are some options to put on the corners to protect my $$ Tarps $$. Thanks!
Felt squares - from Tri-City Canvas. They’ll grommet edges so you can lightly hold them in place while you spread tarp. A bit bulky, but certainly saves tarps.
2x3 carpet squares help for loads that have sharp corners also. Most Home Depot and Walmarts carry them for like $2 a piece. I carry 10 or so of them along with the felt blair mentioned above.
Furniture pads, store easy, pad great. Been using them since I worked at Miller transfer 15 years ago. The felt pads are bulky and hard to store. Tried them and hated them.
Keep your traps tight so they don't flap in the wind, flapping will wear a hole very quickly. The main area is in the front and back, the sharp edges. You need some padding between the tarp and steel edges. Do you have extra trap? Just lay out another tarp over the edges and then put on your main tarp. The main tarp may flap in the wind but it will flap against the first tarp you put down. The first tarp won't usually develop a hole because it is shielded from the wind by the last tarp. You just needed padding between the tarp and the load, and keep it tight, so it dosen't flap. You can even throw a 4" strap over the front edge, halfway over the edge or so to protect it. Not too tight or it will eat the strap. Just tight enough to keep the strap in place while tarping
I used to save the cardboard angle that was used to protect flat stainless sheetson pallets or are used for corner edging protection. They are great for sharp edge tarp protection and can be held in place by tarp straps, duct tape or 2 or 1 inch ratchet straps Saved in 12 inch or 16 inch length 2 dozen can be stored in the area of 1/2 a milk crate and the other half was 2 inch straps
I always carried some carpet squares I cut in different sizes, I have in a pinch just bought a package of pampers and used them. I also had the plastic corner protectors that looked like a bal. eventually I just quit carrying tarps, and all the other stuff to go along with them. lol
Heavy canvas undertarps. Ten foot by ten foot, thick canvas material, can be doubled or tripled (or whatever you need). And fold and roll to take up less storage space than felt or carpet. Have two of them, absolutely love them!
Carpet squares work great but make sure u secure them or they will fall off the freight.. I usually secure them with duct tape or if i have 2 or 3 in a row side by side i will throw a strap over it... moving blankets are much easier and cover more surface area if u have a weird type of load... with i beams it probably just gonna tear on front and back.. Sides should be good, just keep tarp tight
