I run local intermodal out of SoCal Pay is different that the van side. We get paid per mile (empty or loaded), load pay, and any extra pay (hazmat, live load/unload, detention). We also get our safety bonus paid per load and not quarterly like the van side does. Average weekly take home is between $900-1300. Home every night and two days off each week. Depending on where you work you can have to option to work an extra 6th day each week. Definetly more active compared to the van side. Average day is about 4-7 loads. Lots of fun tight areas to back into, and the hectic rail yards. But I'd rather work the rail yards than the ports any day. This is info from my area, as each area is different depending on the number of rail yards in the area and number of customers. SoCal was crazy this holiday season, I heard we did more loads than Chicago
What do you do with the loads where do you deliver them? My last drayage company closed down so I am looking for another I'm in the SoCal area also.
The majority of our loads are drop and hook, but we do have customers that are live load/unload. We do everything from Target, Amazon, Walmart, Goodyear, Rubbermaid, and a bunch of other places. Typical day is about 250-300 miles or less depending on how close to the rail yard dispatch keeps ya.
Not you lol I know ur at SoCal, the op. Over at chicago it's like .43cpm. Over at the east it's lower but they get stop pay. Etc etc different yards different pay same work
im looking at the inter modal out of worcester myself. always good to get all the info i can before going any further lol
