DOT officer said to my driver today “you know those snap binders are illegal to use because they loosen up.” I can’t find anything saying they are. Any ideas?

Did you tell him he needs to do a pee test because it sounds like he's up with the kites.

You politely tell him they are perfectly legal. They do not loosen up like ratchets. And he can scrap the ticket now or in court.

    BTW both binders are legal.

I was thinking they was and no ticket and that made me wonder because if was illegal a ticket would have been given.

Exactly. They're just up to their antics as always, messing with us. Because they get bored and it's funny to them.

I never understood why people think ratchet binders are better. I always loved the snap binders better, they held a coil down with authority

I've used both and for whatever reason, depending on the load I've chosen one over the other. But to say they're illegal......you've really got to wonder about some folks. Especially those that are actually put into such positions.

I call B.S. too. Been using a mix of snaps & ratchets also & never been told that nonsense. Just be sure to properly secure the snap handle with something other than a bungee.. I use my excess chain & one of those kinedyne securing devices. Small screw-pin shackles work too.. images.jpeg
