Wow...i know its a big NO-NO regarding driving and using illegal drugs and i went to the DOT WEBSITE to see what drugs they are looking for. Apparently they are able to detect the following from a Urine Test.

    • Amphetamine
    • Methamphetamine
    • MARIJUANA
    • Delta-9-Carboxy THC (Marijuana)
    • COCAINE
    • Benzoylecgonine
    • OPIATES
    • Morphine
    • Codeine
    • PHENCYCLIDINE
    • PCP

I've never tested positive for any drug...but in the state i'm moving to, (CO), Marijuana is now legal. I don't plan on doing it BUT, i have met drivers that do. They have some tricks of buying some liquid solution for beating the test (apparently you can purchase some drink or something....i don't know...whatever).

Out of curiousity, i wanted to know the following:

    QUESTION(s):
    1. What happens to a driver who test positive on the DOT test for illegal drugs?"
    2. How long does it stay on the DOT records?

    thanks very much!

Don't use drugs and you don't have to worry about Question 1 or 2.

In the state of Missouri that is a test question for your CDL.

    1. You will be fired immediately.

    2. You will not be able to get another CDL job until you complete the fmcsa substance abuse program, and even then there is no guarantee that anyone will be willing to hire you. If someone does, it will be several years at least.

so in summary, your career as a truck driver is effectively over for good

    1 - Fired.
2 - Long enough for the failed test subject to find a fulfilling career in the fast food industry.

You can play skirt around it as much as you like, but bottom line is - CDL holder = No drugs . Period.
