Broken alternator bolt

It's just a 351. Back one on the passenger side. Just rusted to ####. The head had a trickle leak for 20 years.

250K on that engine. Original everything. EVERYTHING. Changed the voltage regulator in the alternator. That's it.

Maybe was driver side.

 

Arguably. The Best engine they ever made since the flat head V-8. Easy power and capable of high mileage.

 

All fixed, what I ended up doing was taking it to Alternator shop and he correctly replaced the post. Although he had to put a bigger post in there because the lil shop across from where I park at tried to do this and used a drill to big. So then I had to redo the alternator wire. Instead of cutting it and putting a new/bigger post/lug on there I just bought one of those flexible wires and ran it to the alternator wire...Ill take a picture of it tomorrow.

 

I'm real curious what this flexible wire fix is?

Don't be scared of wiring on the truck. Its all pretty simple and as an owner operator I think it's a necessary skill. A good stripper, crimper a heat gun and heat shrink butt connectors and you can fix a lot of stuff

 

Grab end with vice grip and carefully drill hole bigger

 

I would've made it too thin. Ill post some pictures

That "flexible wire" is called a "ground strap"
