I’m no help with this situation, but I’d carry a 18 volt sawzall .
It comes in handy more than you’d think .

Also the cordless drill is very useful for flatbed stuff .

    Coover Thanks this.

Not the broker, the mill or steel service center. Anything but beveled hardwood blocks they’ll just refuse the truck.

I got lucky at US Steel in Fairfield. I was picking up 5 coils and I had 9 beveled and one straight. The loader noticed after he put the coil in that rack. "Don't come here again without 10 beveled!" "Yessir". And I've carried 12 up until 2 days ago.

I had one truck and a set of trains on steel for a few years. It had lots of blocks on it. 4’ and 8’. I liked the 8’s better than doubling 4’s under big giant slits, and they were the crossers for long bar and pipe.

Coils are loaded on beveled dunnage to prevent damage, majority of places that ship them require it but, doesn't necessarily mean they are going to refuse to load the truck if a driver shows up without them.

Can't really blame Landstar for requiring you to have them...

If Landstar is such a POS why would you book a load with them?

If u don't wanna carry beveled lumber then buy the coil rack that use regular dunnage and they sit at an angle in the rack. Does the same thing as beveled lumber... I have only used mine less than 5 timesbut they worked good so far. So take that for what's it worth. Disclaimer I am not a steel hauler nor pretend to be, I have hauled less than 50 coils over my career.
