The city of Midland Tx, had planned on putting a roundabout at the intersection of Garfield & Cuthbert Streets. 2 homes(so far) have been razed at the location to make room. $2,500.00 per home yearly property tax vanished. $2,500.00 x 2, x ? how many years? Take the $5,000.00 x 50 years= $250,000.00 gone, vanished, squandered away. Not to mention the normal upkeep for roads, now throw in the challenges of roundabouts, they ain’t no bargain. For what? So we can be more European? Piss on Europe, our ancestors left that crap hole for good reasons.

"the city would have had to rebuild the antiquated traffic signal at a cost of about $300,000 above the roadwork costs.

Pacelli said, many drivers use side streets to avoid the Cuthbert-Garfield intersection. It was decided a roundabout would require less maintenance, offer traffic flow benefits, reduce traffic on the side streets and enhance the aesthetics of the area."

You're complaining about a loss in property tax value - something that is a moot point, in my opinion, but let's go down that road.

Currently, people are bypassing that intesection due to traffic and driving on the residential streets. How much is that impacting property values? How much does longer drive times to work, school, and shopping impact property values?

Even if there was a $750,000 tax loss over 50 years and no offsetting gains that's less than $6 per person over 50 YEARS.

You're also choosing an extreme example - the two roads don't meet at right angles. Cuthbert jogs a half block to the north where it crosses garfiled. Any attempt to improve traffic flow would have meant acquiring land.

Don’t let facts get in the way of a good rant.

This is a roundabout the I have been thru more than 50 time, notice the short cut for real trucks. That is the way to build roundabouts

Tonnage/loaded has right of way, which is actually the law in MA, I take the whole thing and just creep through in 2/3rd gear, someone comes along side I’ll actually stop and let them go, I don’t like paper work or scratching chrome

I remember years ago, Kansas put a roundabout at the intersection of US50 and US77 in Florence, KS. One night, in the wee hours i was headed NE on US50 following another truck by about 1/4 mile. I had been through there recently so i remembered the roundabout. The guy/girl in front of me never slowed down and took the short way across the roundabout. I was waiting on him/her to pull over to check for damage but, nope, just kept on. I had slowed down to make it around and lost that truck from view and never saw it before i got to Emporia.

That is awesome but talking about confusing the average driver! Roundabouts challenge the average citizen's intellect until they get used to them, then in my experience in my area people get used to them and they move smoother.

That one is cool but I would think it would cause more wrecks than either regular roundabouts or intersections. Where is it?

Ya know, we used to teach handy stuff like driver's ed in school. Nowadays it's a joke. My daughter just took driver's ed in a great school system and they taught her approximately nothing.

I've been surprised in some States regarding locations of Round-a-bouts.
I've had ZERO PROBLEMS with other Vehicles in Round-a-Bouts because SIZE DOES MATTER as well air horn enemas.
I've done rounder bouts in snow, torrential rain, high winds (not in cab) as well LOTSA traffic.
Some Truck Stops are "protected by Round-a-bouts" (I think one or 2 in MS on I-10, (by early 2018 timeline).

I was really so mystified by the loss or gain of revenue with installing rounder bouts.
It was such a demanding thought that overpowered my ability to safely operate a Class 8 Combination vehicle that I was forced to cease forward motion and console the inner demons through masterly baiting a fishing pole.
I finally recovered enough, through MANY emotional outbursts, to continue my repetitive journeys and if only I had a Feline or 2, would my journeys have been exponentially satisfying regardless of round-a-bout controversies.

Thanks-b-2-u-4 reading this compilation similar to what George Carlin called a small book he wrote "Brain Droppings".

Wait for the early release of ROUND-A BOUTS & the People They Mystify, coming soon to a Backyard Adventureland Location.
    Check Local Listings, when/where applicable.
Part 2 being considered: Round-A-Bouts and Their Pointless Significance In Generating/Eliminating Tax Based Revenue.
They'll soon become a DISNEY channel Delight along with a new Attraction at Disneyworld Orlando.
    CHEERZ!!
