CHP/DOT pulling over students on test day

My first time ever in a truck school and I would say things did not go well with all of the students back in Feb/mar 2011 On test day with the young men and woman trying to receive their CDL for the first time. The DOT was waiting out side the trucking school ASD (advanced school of driving) in Fontana CA. Me and others did not have to test and we stayed with the group that was doing refresher's. As the trucks went out with young and older students with little or no money for the first time, some of the trainees had been turned around by the DOT and sent back to the school. One student received a ticket on test day, not a good thing. I do not know what type of ticket the school received but this is what happened next. The students had to wait for some trucks to be refitted with tires off of other training trucks and brakes to be adjusted, this added an extra two hours or more to an already long day. As being part of the refresher group We did not have to stay for testing or come back later on in the week. So I went home for the weekend and came back for orientations Monday. Only about half from the school had shown up for orientation at CRST, but the class was full. I do not know what happened to the rest of the students.

When we took the truck down to the DMV to take the final pretrip and drive test for the CDL, there was another truck school's truck there with students. The DMV refused to test the students because their truck had bald tires.

 

Sounds like they were driving trucks with bad tires and brakes in need of adjustment. If this is the case, were the students afraid to point out the deficiencies to the instructor/tester when performing the Pretrip Inpsection portion of their test?

Or did they report it, and then were told to go ahead and drive the truck anyway - nothing like preparing them for the response that they may get in the real world, huh?

Company drivers and lease operators have to learn to say, "NO. It is illegal, and it will put my personal CSA score at risk."

Remember, YOU are in command of the vehicle, and it doesn't move unless you move it. Rest assured, if you get nailed by DOT for operating defective equipment, the company will not hesitate to inform you that YOU were at fault, given the fact that YOU were in command of the vehicle and chose to drive it anyway.

If they want to force the issue, have them send you a Qualcomm message stating that you are required to drive the defective equipment. Trust me, they won't do it.
