I broke down and bought a tnd 520. I need to know how to avoid permanently a entire highway. When I go to the map and click on the highway it only highlights the highway for each city. Do I have to click on each section and avoid it? I want to avoid the I90 in new York and the I80 in Ohio and Indiana.

As the map data is updated then it will be reflected, only though on a map update. If it does not make the map update in time then it could be incorrect.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Since you want to Permanently set an avoid. Follow these steps.

We will use I-80 for an example.

Since you want to avoid I-80 in OH and IN, go the very end of I-80 in PA and find a city. Then Choose Destination/New Location/City Center. West Middlesex, PA is the closest I can see. Enter it in, and then at the bottom of the Begin New Route, tap on the Set Origin. This will place the TND at this location.

Now Choose Destination/New Location/City Center/Hammond, IN. Now route to this location.

On the map screen, bottom left, tap on the Cog button, tap on Detour, on the right side click on any item showing I-80. You may have to scroll down also.

Then tap on the Detour Button.

    This sets a permanent detour.

Hit the back button, upper right, right side of screen, (3 arrows/lines), tap on this. At the bottom tap on Route Display Options. Tap on Highway view. You will now see I-80 is avoided in both states.

Map screen, click on the Cog (bottom left), Cancel route.

Map screen toward the bottom right, click on Return to GPS Location.

This will now physically put you back where you are.

Do this for the other Freeway you wish to avoid.

    *************************

    Temporary Detour.

Once in a route, map screen/right side (3 arrows/lines), tap on this. At the bottom tap on Route Display Options. Tap on Highway view. Tap on the Highway segment you wish to avoid. At the top you should see Detour. Tap on this. You should see a pop up showing what part of this Highway segment you wish to avoid. Tap on the one you wish.

Once the TND is turned off/on this Temporary Detour will have to be reset if still needed.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Probable erronious restriction on TX Fm 1463 (I10 exit 740). Coming from the west it wants to route you on a looping detour despite the address (444 fm 1463, Katy TX) being just on the other side of the i10 overpass

Hi Mark, you never responded to my previous post, but here goes. I returned the previous unit TND 720 for a second one, as the first was displaying some continuous errors that made it inoperable. Now I'm trying to download the dock software and the install wizard says it lost the connection to my device, even as I can see it on My Computer as drive (G:). Per some of these previous posts I turned my computers power mgmt setting to Full performance AND I fully charged the GPS unit prior to starting the download. Please help...

Even after I disconnect the USB cable the GPS reads as connected and it won't turn off unless I hit the reset button.
