It's been over 20 years since I lost it. It healed up about as well as it could have, and is rarely more than a very minor inconvenience.
That said, from the beginning, I refused to be depressed about it. #####ing and whining about it would have just made things worse.
So, I make jokes. (I only have to cut nine fingernails now!) I offer advice when it seems appropriate. I don't get upset when I see kids, or even adults, staring at my hand.
More than anything else though, I'm a lot more careful now about where I put my hands.
Taking the plunge. My journey as an O/O.

When I was 3 years old my 5 year old brother was trying to mow the lawn with our push mower.
He told me to put my hand in there and pull something out. He then pushed the mower. Top of my right index finger flew off.
Mom rushed me to emergency room. Doctor had her call neighbors and look for it. Found it in gutter, put on ice and delivered it to hospital.
Doctor sewed it back on and all is well to this day, some 58 years later.Farmerbob1, JoeyJunk, dwells40 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Most farmers are missing at least 1 digit.

Tried the same rotten trick with my little brother. He didn't fall for it.
Which makes my little brother smarter than you.

Well, brief update.
Two monday's ago I brain farted and forgot to turn in my weekly settlement info, so it carried over to this week.
The combined settlement was for right at 7000 total miles. I will get that check this coming Friday.
I also have gone nearly three weeks with no repairs or maintenance costs at all after the steer axle brake job.
I have, however noted that there is slightly more wear on the inner part of the steers than the outer. No cupping or oddness, just a bit more wear inside.
525k miles, and I am pretty sure the truck has never had a 3-axle alignment.
Next 34, i will have the steers rotated/flipped and get a 3-axle alignment.fordconvert Thanks this. -

Well, my last 34 ended up being somewhere without a shop that I was willing to let do work on my truck.
I am starting to head towards the house now for some home time.
The extended warrantee agreement requires that I replace the transmission oil, and the oil in both differentials within 80k miles of activating the warrantee.
They aren't fools. They know Crete runs the truck for 400k+ miles and never change transmission or differential oil.
Unfortunately, they don't care that I can prove I did it at @450k miles.
So... last month's repairs were limited to a steer axle brake job, BUT I will be starting this month with a three axle alignment, a full rotation of steers and drives, oil test on engine, oil tests on transmission and both differentials, and oil changes on the transmission and both differentials.
I also need to find out if there are oil filters in the transmission / differentials. If there are, I know #### well Crete never touched them.
When I get out of the truck on home time, i will update my year-to-date numbers. -
Did you do the same dedicated run...as a company driver...that your now doing..as an owner-op driver
