01 T800 Eaton autoshift torque lock

    01 KW T800 300K mileage, Eaton Autoshift Quad Axle Dump.

    This is 1 truck of fleet of 7, only autoshift. Randomly the truck will not start in the morning and after boosting and such it will start. Other times randomly the truck will not shift into reverse. After shutting the truck off and letting it sit for anywhere from 1/4 to 1 hour it will again start shifting and times it will not and has been towed to KW shop several times. Boss is looking at changing it into a manual shifting transmission to avoid this issue. It has cost him a large sum of money from loss of work to siiting at the dealer and not getting fixed.

    Any ideas on fix would be great.

    try this its a quick fix but works a lot of the time
    unhook the batteries,wait a minute or so an hook em back up it resets the computer, back when the autos first came out i made more than a few bucks from drivers that would turn off their trucks without shifting into neutral,[usually on the fuel islands] which totally confuses the computer

    Change the oil in the transmission. Really. I have a 2000 Century with a autoshift that has more than 1.4 million on it. I used to fight torque lock from time to time. I finally changed the transmission oil, and have been changing it every 300k or so miles. I think what happens is as the oil ages it tacks up a bit making the transmission harder to shift and the air box doesn't have the muscle for it.

    Thanks Guys for advice, I will pass it on. Not sure if the fluid has been changed, although it seems to me the one time this happened a lot of the tranny oil was on the ground when it was towed but not positive. Someone else drives it. I di read someplace about a wiring connector on the fireewall that could be corroded and not allowing full voltage to flow to computer, anyone else heard of this??

    The x-y shifter module is problematic, we change a ton of them.

    Is there a upgraded x-y shifter module or are there repeats of the module failure in the same truck????

    Agreed on the x-y shifter.. there is also some software updates that go along with the new shifter.. power supply is usually the # 1 issue with autoshift. they need a pristine power and ground..

    About 99% sure that the x-y shifter module has been replaced and software updated.

    I have read from doing a search in this forum that there is a connector on th firewall that gets corroded and can cause problems, can anyone direct me to its location either with a pic and/or description?
