Hello all, new to the forum. This has probably been posted before, but I need help finding a company that will hire me, preferably flatbed, with only a year of experience, over 10 yrs. old. My family farmed, we always had trucks, got my Class A CDL working for a concrete company in North Missouri, July of 2001. I kept my Class A because I have been a mechanic most of my life, had to keep it to test drive the tractor/trailers I worked on. Now, I want to get back into driving, but, most companies won't touch me cause my experience is over 10yrs. old. Any ideas on how I can get back on the road without having to go to a truck driving school? Most say it's an insurance issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to say but your 1 year experience is meaningless now due to the time since last used.

You and the student fresh out of cdl school are on the same level.
You will have to find a company (mega carrier) that will bring you in and go out with a mentor/trainer.
Unless you get extremely lucky and find a mom and pop company willing to take the risk in hiring you.

That's what I've been running into, tried Schnieder, but it was a no go, talking to Swift, but not sure if I want to go with them. Tried a few mom n pops, but no dice. Thanks for the reply. Probably not gonna be in the position to be picky for a couple of years.

Take a refresher course at a school or go to a company that offers refresher courses. Either way start applying and let them tell you no before assuming they won't hire you.

TMC Transportation might pay for cdl school then hire you. One school they use is C-1 in Stafford,MO
    I think C-1 is a 3 week program.
You've been off the road so long, some formal schooling will be required.
Check TMC website and call; maybe work out something with the company.
