Agreed, I know of several guys on here that have gone well over 1.5m miles w/o a rebuild. If the truck is running good and no major problems, $6,000-$8,000 is a good deal!!!

I have been going to truck auctions for the last 6 months in Indiana and you would be surprised what trucks are bringing. The hoods are 30,000 on up for 2000 and newer models(petes and kw). Disposable conventional freightliners(columbia, century, cascadia) a guy can pick up a 2007 model with 6-700,000 miles for $ 20,000 or a little more. Volvo's are $ 15,000-$30,000 2005-2008 years. I could have bought 6 2002 volvo 670 with 900,000-1.1 million miles for $6,000 a piece. I bought my 377 pete with an overhaul on a 3406e cat with a super 10 fuller, paper work on the overhaul from a CAT Shop. Overall good condition Paid $ 10,200 at auction. 2000 model year of my 377. Depends on who is at the auctions as to what the trucks are bringing. Also watch out for what percent the auctions are charging for buyer premiums. Some of those can hurt when added onto the purchase price. Good luck.

Buyer premium is negligeable at this auction (2%). I just got back from going to check the truck out a little more. Steers are new, drives are at about 30% give or take. Miles on the clock are 826xxx so a little lower than I thought assuming that's correct.

These 377's for whatever reason just don't get the same price as a lot of other trucks so I think they have built in value if you don't mind the looks, which I don't. As long as it makes me money and doesn't look like a cobbled together hunk of scrap I'm ok with doing paint and whatnot on it myself. I don't know if I would mess with a truck with a Super 10 though, there seems to be a lot of negative feedback on the strength of those transmissions, not sure how much truth there is in all of that though. 10k on your truck sounds like a bargain for sure though.

I would prefer to have a 13spd but when I get a deal on a truck I will take something different as long as I like it. I have driven many super 10's and I have never had a problem with them. I suppose it just depends on whether people b*t** when something happens or if they chalk it up to sh** happens and just get it fixed and move on down the road. There is always something that one will b**** about that another will love... :biggrin_255: As long as it doesn't cost alot to have a detroit rebuilt then I think you wouldn't hurt yourself by buying this truck.

Maybe i should take this Star to the auction and see what I can get. I'm sure all the stainless steel should add a bit to it's selling price ;)

As long as everything else is in good shape, you can afford to rebuild the engine and get many miles out of the truck.

Hell my old 2000 Star is pulling 15k to 20k on Truckpaper. That's pretty good compared to 08-09 when they were selling for under 10k.

OP, don't worry about that old Detroit, if it sounds good and the oil and coolant looks good. I'd worry more about the rest of the truck: Bushings clutch, all of the switches working, etc. Those 08-10 will be in the engine shop more in the next year than that Series 60 has ever been.

Taking mine in the morning to get the overhead done, and get that blasted 3 piece manifold fixed it's leaking like crazy. But a friend of mine has an 07 Columbia with the Mercedes Motor, blew the turbo, Hope your sitting down
That sucker cost him $10,000 unfrigging believable. New turbo for my 12.7 under a grand.

A little up date, when I dropped mine off this morning, I asked the what the Bull gear would cost to be replaced, about $3,500

I don't know about 10k, but the newer variable geometry turbos(VGT) can be very pricey, as in thousands, plus core. Add in a new Charge Air Cooler, (mine is 1600 from WS), a big tow bill, and I'm sure it can get up there quick.
