1986 Peterbilt 359 Q's

    Been having this problem. Not sure if it's related to the alternator or not. Any input would be appreciated. Having this issue when trying to start. I would press the start button and it would just click and all power would be of the cab I check the 75 amp feed to see if it's got power. What's funny it's that the stater button would have power in both screws even when the button have been release. And sometimes it would reset and other I would have to go ahead and unplug the ground from batteries at that time it would reset and work. Other times it won't crank over.

    The problem can be the push button not passing enough current to the solenoid. To fix this problem on my 59 Pete. I installed a Ford Starter solenoid to pass current to the solenoid mounted on the starter. The push button triggered the Ford solenoid which triggered the started solenoid. End of problem. It might sound like a lot but it worked for me. I'm referring to the typical Ford starter solenoid usually mounted on the firewall or inside fender seperate from the Ford starter.

    Do you HAVE to pass through TWO of those #### things? Just more stuff to break... ugh...

    Starter motor has one switch, big enough to feed from big batteries to crank large engine on demand from your key. It's what? 50 amps flowing through there?

    Im sorry for questions this morning, coffee aint kicked in just yet.

    Ok, I gotcha. Gawd Im stupid. LOL...

    I can see myself now. *Pushes button ZZZTYTT! and that is that.

    I used to run locally in the S F Bay area. Had to shut the truck off & restart many times daily. Starter solenoids would burn out frequently, push buttons too. I was running a 59 Pete cab and frame, 77 small cam 400 Cummins, 66 wide nose hood. Ran that truck until 1991. I did all my own repairs and maint.

    I found a 60 amp push start button in Amazon and put a 100 amp Circuit breaker on the 309 cable going to the main cable fees send to have stop the problem. For now still checking all the other cable tones if any short.

    Ok so now I'm working on. The transmission temp sender. Can located I see the cable #39
    But can't see where it goes oh the transmission
    I got a rto14615. Look it up but I doesn't say where I do see the back up light two. Prong on top a little right from the shifter. Any input. Thanks

    I put a wanted Peterbilt 359 project add on kijiji (Canadian Craigslist) and I received a ton a folks interested in selling their old trucks and parts. Grew my network considerably in my local area To help me with my 359 project truck
