Winter Haven is a good location for many good driving jobs. You'll be back on the road within 24 - 48 hours.

Sometimes it is hard to understand a truck owners decisions. In my way of thinking, your boss would have been more eager than you to find something else for his trucks, some will stay on a dead end road, till it closes completely down.

It costs to switch Companies. I’d Put all three at the best choice, If he has to switch again, it won’t be much if any more costly. A lot of places run a Truck hard at first, while hiring too many, spreading Freight thin for others. Best to always have a back up plan. Ready to make a move, before going broke.

Your not the only carrier that does this- Smart/business minded carriers NEVER use brokers for outbounds.... And try to limit brokers on inbounds

The Problem here is he isnt actively seeking out new business to keep you lessees busy

Lesson learned for me is to not work for a truck owner that doesn't run under his own authority. I understand that most truck owners that lease on do so because they are underfunded to run under their own authority. That puts them in a position of weakness. I'm sure that these lease companies know the power that they hold over these guys. Even with 3 paid for older trucks my now former boss has no operating capital left. He never should have overextended himself obtaining the third truck. Personally, I hope he sells one so he can stay afloat.

There is nothing wrong with his business model, the problem is he chooses to stay somewhere that hurts both him and his employees. Also your assumption about why people lease to a carrier is off base.

that not exactly true. I pull tankers and I've had drivers who made plenty of money. Just because an owner doesn't run his own authority, doesn't mean it isn't a good business model. You just got stuck working for a stubborn owner.

What does it cost the owner of the truck to have it sit and wait for a better paying load? Whatever his fixed cost per day. Truck payment if any, all other costs are borne by the carrier he is leased to. At least if he had his own authority he would have more incentive to keep it moving, i.e insurance, permits, other back office costs adding to his daily cost.
What does it cost for him to have a driver sit, for 1 hour, one day, one week? $0
As long as that is the model, this will never change. Turnover continues industry wide.
    Driver shortage. Pullleasseee.
