34 hour reset versus OTR gig with several days off

Getting to see the "home on weekends" is not what they are selling it to be with having to leave early on Sunday to get delivery to client on Monday am after getting home late afternoon Friday . It's a very short "weekend" for the new drivers who haven't experienced it yet.
I am reconsidering the "home on weekend=34hr reset" gig for the better OTR gigs with 7 to 14 consecutive days away and then home for at least 4 to 5 FULL days at home. I think Roehl has something like that but anybody know of other OTR companies with something similar AND with good record of treating employees fairly??

 

Suffering the same dilemma. NOT what they told me when I asked questions before hiring. Things will change or I will be searching for greener pastures.

 

There's not many (or any that I know of) companies that are going to give you 4-5 full days off for being out only 7-14 days. Unless of course the company is yours.....

typically a 34 hour restart is how long your home
you find better positions but guys hang onto to them tightly
trucking is different then most professions
they can not be compared
home daily even isn't 9-5
mostly home for your 10 hour break

 

Yep. I've heard same from local drivers on getting home for roughly the 10 hr reset. I knew going in that the hours away would be long and no issues with that but seems was sold bill of goods that never materialized and used a ploy to lock in drivers and then pull the rug and reassign to areas where they need bodies.
OTR might be a better fit with more reliable time home versus the quick 34hr reset with the right company.

 

If you don't have family or kids, with most local jobs you would get more rest sleeping in the truck rather than driving back and forth from home. But a lot of people work 2-3 jobs and get less rest. It's just hard if you want to live comfortably and not rely on help from the government.

That's right about a lot of regional as well. Get in late Friday or early Saturday, leave out Sunday.

 

what do you mean when you said treating the employees fairly?when companies get you home on weekend's most drivers have to head back out early or late Sunday.So believe me your dispatcher isn't singleing you out.Far as home for several days,you do know you won't be making much money don't you?Also being on that program you may have to slipseat.So I would ask the recruiter about that..

That's why I took a 10% pay cut and went to an hourly wage for a regional position. Now that I'm sleeping better every night at home, I'm able to work longer and have has some pay cheques that are higher than shorter weeks I had OTR.

You have to run hard for 6 days straight to even make OTR worth it. "Taking it easy" is just wasting your and the company's time at entry level rates.

 

There are options out there depending where you live and who you work for. Schneider has the typical 34 hrs reset each week or two weeks out two days off then two weeks off three days off. Another possibility is three weeks on one week off which is designed more for people living a good distance from the operating centre
