53 or 54 foot fixed spreads inside. everyone elses .02 need not apply

I will be running a 53 foot reefer with a 275 wb truck. I haven't crossed a Tennessee scale in a long time. Seems the ramp is always full.

 

You might wanna watch GA a little closer--since most cat scales etc ONLY give you spread weight--and GA just loves to weigh each axle seperately--too many time Ive heard the story from folks NOT used to Ga DOT--about how they were only 37 or 38 on spread--BUT when GA split em were over 20 on the front axle--and they busted em--gotta be careful how you load--and might wanna double check ind spread axle weights

 

'olhand I have a 53' with a 10' spread that I like to run slid all the way back. I run up and down the east coast with no problems. When you load 20 pallets how do you load it? How many singles and where? How bout 22 pallets and so on? I find a lot of shippers get upset when I say I need it light in the nose and stretched to the doors. Just wondering how you guys with the 53' fixed spreads load. Thanks

 

I always load--to 24 pallet spots on a 53-(unless of course there are more)-so 20=4 singles and so on--also on the spread--I keep 4 chep pallets locked in(standing up)against the bulkhead to move whole load back slightly--Depending on overall weight of load and if ALL pallets are same weight--w/20 as example--on spread Ill do single double single single--then 6 doubles single double--
I know some shippers can be a pain--BUT--my wagon my load--my way--weather I have the spread or straight 53--Worse case--they give you that they are not responsible--BLAH BLAH--LOL
Course it helps that there is nothing painted written etc inside the wagons--I think most places have just gotten used to loading everything to Cali bridge and figures it is good too go anywhere......
But in reality we have the wagons--since we do ltl--and load em to the gills leavin the farm--LOL

 

I know what you mean on the my wagon my way, Lol. I have been loading 20 pallets with 2 singles double 2 singles doubles back. Im gunna try your way with three up front and one further back to try and get it a little lighter on the spread. Its a struggle to stay under gross with 20 pallets of maters, lol. Im right a 36500 empty and low on fuel. If you don't mind whats your empty weight? Im wishing I could drop a 1000 pounds somewhere but I don't have anything I want to take off the truck. Lol

I think forsyth and Valdosta scale are the only axle scales on 75. I haven't went across forsyth in about a year and south Georgia they are usually closed at the hour I roll thru. I am leaning more toward ordering the 54 footer though.
