I'm just guessing now, did you check fuel pressure ? Or air intake restriction ? Is the cac and a/c condenser and radiator fins plugged with dirt ?

    SAR Thanks this.

I had the shop check the fuel pressure and run some injector tests when they did the overhead. It all looked pretty clean, i thoroughly cleaned them. Fins are in good shape. Radiator and CAC where replaced in 2016 by the previous owner according to the receipts and tags on them.

I appreciate all the replies and help this thing has me scratching my head as well.

Mines set at 475, and in a dump truck . About the only time I can work it hard is hauling over Teton Pass, which is a 10% grade. Also, despite conventional wisdom, I don't pull it hard below 1500 rpm for long. About to crest a hill I'll let it pull down to 1200, but on a long pull I just go ahead and downshift. Call me old fashioned, but it just seems easier on everything to me.

Is it a aftermarket cac ? And aftermarket a/c condenser ? I know certain aftermarket a/c cond. Restrict air flow from their poor design.

I'll have to look tomorrow. So everything I've found that was replaced has been replaced at a dealership with the stock replacement.

I think i read somewhere that some types of CAC's didnt flow very good. Is there a better aftermarket replacement? The coolant always runs cool, I figured things where flowing good enough. A mechanic told me to turn the fan on and place a shop rag against the condenser and that it should hold the rag there at idle. It did.

If I read correctly you have a modified program in it. Maybe the stock turbo isn't enough. I don't like to tell you to do this but take a zip tie and kink the little hose that goes to the waste gate and run it a trip and see if that cools it down, but don't leave it like that you can over spin your turbo and damage it after prolonged use.

I have to down shift at 1500 anything below that and the egt's climb even more. If the truck didn't have an 18 spd it would be almost useless. These oklahoma(central oklahoma) hills aren't exaclty mountains either.

The rag thing is only if you have blockage. It isn't really a fool prof way of checking.
