Has anybody ever ran a truck with dual tires on a dyno & then swapped the duals out for super singles and ran it on the dyno again to see how much if any horspower the super singles free up????

NO, I'm dead ####### serious!!! It's a known fact that super singles have less rolling resistance than duals so in theory they should take less horsepower to turn, right??? I thought it was a good question, dont know what your ####### problem is.

Tires will not Create nor Free up HP or TQ. Now if you take weight off the Crank shaft that would add HP. But tires will do nothing, on a truck.

On a car for racing it still wont add HP/TQ but a wider drive tire will give you more traction and more GO and less spin, and put more power to the ground.

And yea SS will take less power to move but will not create any.

Company drivers don't understand things like rotating mass. That is where you'd really see a HP gain thanks to the super singles. Gain is a bad word, more like decrease the loss of horsepower.

By losing close to 400 lbs of rotating mass, I'd imagine thered 'd be decent gain in dyno HP.

I was a Mechanic be for i started driving......A&P Aircraft Tech. I would love to see what kind of "gains" you'd get almost like the "gains" in fuel economy they provide :biggrin_2559:

I guess you've never heard of drive train loss? Everything connected behind the engine that transfers power, feeds off that power for its operation, therefore giving on average an 15-20% loss of HP from the engine rating to the ground. By removing weight from the drive line, including tires, that loss will be minimized to some degree. The original question asked if someone has tested it on a dyno to see how much of the loss was eliminated. Thanks for playing.

The less rubber u got on the road the less drag you create thus less power is needed to overcome this , that's why lance Armstrong has skinny tyres on his bicycle and not mountain bike tyres

Yes i understand all that, my point is it will be minimal gains. SS's remove 750lbs from an axle set. switching to SS's for the purpose of gaining HP would be a massive waste of money. There are far better ways to get power in a Diesel truck.

It is not about getting more HP.
It is about getting the HP you have used for desired objective.
Pushing air, creating heat , making noise are what you want to minimize.
Minimizing these frees more HP for the objective of moving the truck on less fuel.
There will defiantly be more HP on a Dyno if you lower drive line losses.
