When I was on ship back in the very early 70"s, the deck hands and snipes would place our shirts and pants in the mesh bags when the skipper would gt in the turbines, and throw them in the wake. When done, they then went to laundry. All of the agitation would get a lot of the real tough stains and grime off them. Heck, we would do that same at times with the mops.

 

Or during your mandatory 30 minute break...

 

Now there's a word you don't hear everyday.Snipe. I remember 25years ago when I was working in a welding shop when one ex squid called another a "snipe" and a fistfight broke out in the shop. WTH is/was a snipe on a Navy Ship??

 

Snipe was those that where down below in the engine room. Now I was in the CG and the deck hands and snipes got along well since many of times we worked hand in hand, especially in drills.

 

The word and meaning of it hardly sounds worth beating the hell out of each other for-but that's what they did. Course they didn't like each other to start with anyway. Never saw either again as they both got fired that day and UNTIL today..Forgot snipe was even a word.. Thanx bisqueak!!

 

What the hell did you do to my Navy ... Things also worked perfectly fine on the Dahlgren (DLG 12) when I was aboard her.

And no need to thank me, I just floated around on a couple of ships and hung out at a NAS ... But you can thank my son - he did 2 combat tours in Iraq.

I was a baaadd boy ... for the better part of 2 cruises the only liberty I saw was stick liberty.

Snipes are snipes and twidgets are twidgets ... nothing wrong with either one. BUT, you don't call a twidget a snipe and you don't call a snipe a twidget.

 

An don't call a black shoe an airdale and don't call a tin can sailor a bubblehead.

Oh yes, don't call my girlfriend in Olongapo a chickengirl and don't call my Chinese girlfriend in Hong Kong a Pinoy.

 

Can you really park the truck, get your stuff ready, get into and out of the shower and back in the truck in 30 minutes?
I can't.
All of that takes me just about an hour.

 

Could if I didn't shave, #### shaving. I time myself average 40-50 minutes from time I leave truck to back in it.

 

Yes, and shaving takes that extra 10 minutes or so.

I can't fit in a shower in only 30 minutes though.
That would be like stepping in to get wet, and then right back out without actually washing anything.
