The only question that you need to ask this so why should I drive for you?

Yes. All the revenue that flows into a company is depended on the driver. 100%. The other folks there are support staff.

If a trucking company has only 1 employee guess what he is the driver. That fact is forgotten by many who work for trucking companies. Yes, they have their jobs and those jobs provide for greater profits but they do not provide as great of a percentage value to the company.

For example. A one truck operation running from Chicago to Atlanta and back doing so perfectly will make $2.40 per mile. The run is
716.5 miles and it takes 10.5 hours to do it in. That brings in $1719.60 in revenue per one way. At 7 mpg at $3.90 per gallon the fuel cost work out to around $400 for the trip. So revenue minus fuel is $1320.

Now provided the driver can always find loads and nothing goes wrong, that is the companies best rate of return. As the company grows and they add more trucks they need more support people. Sales folks, paper shufflers, janitors, mechanics, personal folks, someone to answer the phone, managers. As well as many others. But none of them bring in the revenue. They make larger possible but for everyone employed the percentage of profit goes down.

Without drivers, there is no trucking company. Sales folks and load planners are important but many owner operators do that work themselves.

Once drivers except just how important they are to the industry, a raise is in order.
