I'm 23 years from Southern California, just got laid off 1.5 weeks ago, and have enough money to go to trucking school to my CDL A and tanker/hazmat endorsements. I might just go to Texas because the conditions don't seem AS bad there as it is up in ND. No having to worry about valves or hoses freezing up and exploding on me in Texas lol Most have of my previous jobs have been doing sales and customer service for dealerships and shops (service advisor), so getting into trucking will be quite a change to me. Was debating on just going out and being a roughneck or becoming a trucker and I chose trucker in case I wanted to go into the rail road after I doing some time on the oil fields in TX or ND. I guess the easiest thing for me is that i'm not married and don't have kids, so I can just get up and go to where the work is. Quick question as well, I have two speeding tickets, one that I got one year ago, and one that I got two years ago, is that going to be a big problem in the hiring process? Snakes make me flip out period, so I could only imagine what I would do seeing a rattle snake only a few feet from me........

Unless you have skill overseas work not in combat zone is not so hot. Driving will get you squat unless you get into some very hard to get mining gig. If you can run crews doing electrical, mechanical, welding, etc and also handle ordering and procurement you can make some good coin. IT and other management skills sell well in Dubai. For regular driving and working positions you will get undercut every time by Indians, Pakis, Nepalese, Filipinos, big mouths from the Balkins and worst of all now by the millions fleeing Africa. They are the worst smile to your face stab you in the back bunch on the planet. $3hr is good money to them.

Just a quick update concerning jobs in West Texas............ I am hearing from several around here that December is the single worst time to try to get hired in the West Texas Oil Fields. The reason? We it seems that the budgets of the oil companies begin to run dry and they have to wait until Jan 1 to get more funding, so the work begins to taper off as Christmas Approaches. We are slowly starting to see that now.
My spin on that is not to worry about it and apply anyway. The reason that I say that is that it takes some 2-3 week to get the wheels rolling anyway. So, apply, and call, and call again.
