Hey. Thanks for all the replies. Some interesting stuff here. I'll try to address some of it while I have a second or two.

Up here, the scales don't care if the heavy is front or back. So long as the gross is ok and the axels are ok and the overall length is ok, the leave me alone. -
Jump around like fish, boy, no kiddin there ! We all have bad roads, but I have one bridge I have to go over every night and we call it 'speed bump bridge' ..... well I hit that bridge with an empty pup on the back just as a good gust of wind came over the bridge. I hit the bump and put the pup in the air and I swear it swung around far enough for me to read the 800# on the side of it !!!!miss elvee and HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thank this. -

The term is Canadian in it's origin I believe. In Canada we have A Train doubles, which you are correct, 28 or 30 foot doubles.
We have B trains and Super B trains, which are heavy doubles, and married units where the second fifth wheel is mounted to the lead trailer.
We used to have C train doubles. Those are where the dolly either had a double lunette that attached to a double pintle hook, or stability bars on either side. I haven't seen a c double in years. I don't think anyone runs them up here anymore.
We also have LCV's, or Long Combination Vehicle. That's the tractor and double 53's. They run this set up in NY and a few other states, and most of Canada. AKA Super Turnpikers.
As for the rest of what you said, I agree. I'm pretty meticulous myself, and I deal with a lot of slippery and frosty roads, let alone snow covered. I have a very heavy tractor ( mine ), and fairly sturdy, decently maintained trailers ( theirs ). I like the weight up front, where it should be. However, like we all agree, pup weights are notoriously wrong on paper. I WISH I had a platform scale to test the pups out on, I have to do it by feel here. Oh well, maybe when they build the new hub we might get a scale.Cat sdp, HeWhoMustNotBeNamed, road_runner and 1 other person Thank this. -
