I just went through the same business. Got my CDL at the end of June, but wasn't planning on starting a job until the middle of August. When I talked to Rusty, he told me to wait until I was 3-4 weeks out from the date I wanted to start before actually putting in an application.

So even though I got my CDL at the end of June, I didn't apply until July 18th. I start August 15th.

Thanks guys, I'm going to hold off and submit one in a few weeks. Right now Abilene is 1st on a very short list for me. They seem like a legit company.

It's a very good company to start ones driving career at... And to stay at for several years too.

Agreed. Abilene is not perfect, but no trucking company is. Abilene is the lesser of evils.

Did something happen with the hp load because you helped unload?.

Thanks for the information, I'm going to be calling the recruiting on Wednesday. What is the usual pay by the mile for refreshers once you get your own truck .34 a mile?

Just an open post to whoever it was that left that tire in the back of 6588 when it was dropped at hp.

The hp guys loaded the coolers in behind it, they didn't take it off for you.

As a result I have it tied to the catwalk using an assortment of halfhitch and sheepshank knots that I scarcely remember from my cub scout days.

Thanks for the opportunity to practice one of my merit badge skills.

Starting pay for newbies is 36 cpm. If you have prior experience you might try asking for a higher rate but better to just bank on getting the 36 since you are going through their training.

Seems like the drivers there run everywhere, which is a good thing
