I will later. I suggested leaving it on the yard for a local driver as i wont have the hours to deliver it until tomorrow.

    The silence was deafening. o_O

For the record i do make any calls i need to but have to say i see fnfans point.

Helping out is a two way street. Sure i can make some calls and book some appts and they can jump in my truck and knock out some miles for me...you know in the spirit of helping each other out.;)

If that is part of my job, sure. I have worked in warehouses for decades doing exactly what lumpers do...except i was a permanent employee.

The issue i have is these warehouses using third parties to do the dirty work so they can increase their bottom line.

No need to pay ss, benefits, vacation, 401k etc. The little man gets screwed over so the millionaires stay rich.

If those lumpers dont earn enough, we the tax payer get to supplement their income and help feed their families.

Hello everyone , I am thinking of going to CDL school and will be living in Indiana and have noticed on TTR that a lot of people say that Abilene is a good company.
I have been looking through this thread but it is so long and hard to find some basic answers and was wondering if someone could put some up to date info about this company.
Just looking for the usual stuff like:
    Pay
    Equipment
    Routes
    How long with trainer
Canada , Mexico or New York
Can I take my wife and dog
    All reefer
I will check again on their website but just thought while I was here I would ask.
Also I am from the Indianapolis , IN area
    Thanks

You are about to max out your 70 with no recap hours in sight... How can that be improved?

Serious question... You might be able to hit it a tad sooner but dang dude... LOL

    Guess I'm still missing something.

There's a difference between running and whining. Just saying.

Welcome to our little corner of the world.

    Pay: 36/CPM without experience

    Equipment: awesome, fridge, inverters, etc.

Routes: vary but I95 and I40 are main lanes

Length of Training: varies depending on you

    Canada: at times yes
Mexico: never heard anyone going there yet
New York: yes but OTR folks don't hit it, NYC, often as we have regional drivers for NE miles. And there is a 10 CPM bump for all NE States too.

    Wife/Dog: eventually with rules.

Reefer: some but mostly dry van

Indianapolis would be a great area as we have several regular drops in IL/IN/OH so home time should not be a problem.

Feel free to ask anything else.

My two cents worth: very good company to start your carreer at and many are happy here (we have our fair share of whiners too... LOL

    Stay Safe

You like to call everyone a whiner that's not content with Abilene. Abilene is a great company but it may not be for everyone.

Personally I think driving a truck sucks. Being away from your family sucks. If I could find something that pays just as well I would quit in a heart beat. Until then Abilene appears to be the best choice for me and my family.

I agree. I'm down here in FL attempting to "fix" the "work" of others again. Thats not my job. We are to be dispatched, not BE dispatchers.

By not giving me constant back to back loads over 40k running thru the mountains of VA, WV and KY with endless waits at docks on each end.

What you're missing is the 14 constantly crossing the 11 thus eating up the 70. I'd have thought a bean counter like you could figure that out. Just saying.
